The Asian markets that are open are in free fall this morning as the world indices react to the latest tweet from Donald Trump. From record highs last week in two of the US markets we are looking at a drop of 500 points in DOW futures.
The Hang Seng is down close to 1000 points. The Nikki 225 is closed for a holiday as are the majority of European markets who will escape the carnage for another 24 hours.
All this on the back of a tweet from Donald Trump threatening to raise the tariffs on China this week as he is not happy with the progress of the talks. Only last week, a number of analysts were predicting a positive conclusion to talks this week, now it is rumored that the Chinese will not attend the talks on Wednesday.
It may be bluff and bluster, a negotiating tactic but the markets see it as much more at the moment.
A volatile start to the week is assured.
